Donate
We are always in need of help with our mission, whether that be through donations, sponsorship or volunteering. We are always grateful for any assistance.
Donate In-Kind
We appreciate all donations no matter what form they take. If you feel uncomfortable donating money or would rather donate in-kind, we have a few needs for goods and services you can assist us with.
To support our sustainable farming project, we are looking for more farmland space for growing fresh produce. The farmland would be sustainably harvested and contribute towards feeding families across Cape Town. In the future we hope it will help feed families across Africa.
Other goods that would help our cause greatly are kitchen equipment, computers, motor vehicles, and office space.
If you are a specialised professional, donations of services such as pro-bono consulting in accounting or auditing would be a great help to our cause.
Lastly, we are always looking for tangible items to provide for emergency needs. If you have toys, clothing, or other goods that will be helpful to families in need please feel free to donate them.
For our feeding scheme – our estimated cost per meal is R5.00. This will consist of 200g of starch and 200g protein. Our estimated minimum target per day is 500 kids per each phase/feeding point, and we have a total of 9 phases in Kraaifontein and a total of 15 small organisations/soup kitchens in different communities around Cape Town. Open Foundation actively supports 10 youth, arts and culture organisations in Bloekombos and Wallacedene. Additionally, we have the children’s home (orphanage) to supply with food daily for a number of 50 people. On average, our meals will cost R18 250.00 per day to make. However, we are trying to get our food cost to a minimum by making sure that we supply our own fresh produce so that we can make meals that cost less than R1.00.
Become a Corporate Sponsor
If you would like to support our initiative in Africa and become a corporate sponsor we have several programs that we run which are in need of your support:
Our learn to bake program looks at the neediest youth in the community who have a passion for pastry and baking. The young women and men who attend this program come from very poor backgrounds. Many of them are uneducated, victims of abuse, and at risk with the law. Some are orphans or living with HIV and other controllable illnesses. Some have overcome the first stage of fighting against drug abuse while others are refugees who haven’t gotten a chance to find a starting point in life.
We provide them with a free three month training course covering basic cooking skills, baking skills, computer skills and other necessary life skills. The course is followed by a three month internship in a professional kitchen at a chosen restaurant or local supermarket.
After the internship we help students find employment if they were not taken on full-time at the same company where they did their internship. This helps them to build a foundation to start improving their lives and become a beacon of hope for their families.
The Learn to Sew Academy is focused on creating jobs for youth as well as promoting African talent. Through the project we are searching for and promoting fashion designers with a deep African perspective.
The project was bolstered from a partnership with Life Centre Ministries who generously donated 10 sewing machines to Open Foundation SA.
The main mission of the academy is to give a platform to individuals from tough backgrounds and who are lacking opportunities but are interested in the fashion industry. The curriculum includes skills in designing, pattern cutting and pattern grading.
In the long-term and to remain sustainable we would like the academy to help provide school uniforms to local schools and shops in the community.
We would like to design and promote a local South African Traditional brand affiliated to Open Foundation SA aimed at raising funds for a good cause of the organisation.
Our basic computer training program aims to educate youths from informal settlements on basic computer skills to improve their marketability for employment in the fourth industrial revolution.
The program is a 3 month course structured in a formal education system. We teach a basic introduction to computing, coding, the concept of networking and using the internet, using Microsoft Word and Excel and a few other key computer skills.
The Learn to Farm project based at Lavender Manor in Malmesbury is a sustainable project focused on creating employment opportunities while contributing to food security.
We also support the Learn to Grow your Garden project, which is a community initiative empowering mostly women with basic gardening skills in order to grow their own backyard vegetable garden, creating a secure source of food and income. We provide them with gardening tools, a mobile basic garden, seedlings and continuous support.
The Open Foundation SA Center is a one stop centre that provides everything youths need to learn and up-skill themselves in order to become productive members of the community. The centre provides a safe place for youths in the community to learn and grow.
Volunteer
If you would like to volunteer your time to help out at Open Foundation SA, we run campaigns throughout the year and we would love your support.

“After seeing Open Foundation SA’s commitment and dedication to the children they serve, we decided to increase our support and move to permanent bulk produce donations to cook and serve the community. “Our engagement with Open Foundation SA is based on our belief that they have the potential to create a more sustainable and equitable community. We were happy to donate a piece of land in-kind to support the organization’s ‘Learn to Farm’ project, which serves humanity and the planet by giving people their independence back by learning to produce for themselves and for their families. We believe Open Foundation SA has the capacity to bring about this much needed change.”
